Big Boys Toys

Hello!  Welcome to our Big Boys’ Toys section, where we have a selection of photos and videos showing the tools and toys of the recycling trade.  We’d like to show you recycling machinery, recycling plant and recycling equipment in action.  We have Balers, Baler Shears, Cable Strippers, Reel Guillotines, Shredders, Granulators, Handlers, Vehicle Depollution equipment, Sorting/Separation Plants and much much more.
From metals to plastics, green waste to electronics equipment, there are recycling machines and plant to process every type of material.

Using material collected from household or business producers, the material merchant needs to initially reduce the bulk size of material for cost effective transportation.  Secondly, it has to be separated into the individual types of material, and finally it is processed into a form and size suitable for the end user.  Here’s a simplified description of the types of recycling machinery, recycling plant and recycling equipment in daily use in the recycling industry:

Balers
These recycling machines give the merchants the means to reduce bulky loose light material (paper, metals, rubber, plastics) into a regular compact form.

Advantages:
Cost effective transportation with full lorry payloads easily achieved
Reduced storage space
Uniform product

Baler Shears
Predominantly found in the metals recycling facilities, this recycling machinery allows the merchant to initially reduce the bulk of collected material into a bale or log and then shear the logged material into a uniform length and width.

Advantages:
Cost effective transportation with full lorry & boat payloads easily achieved
Reduced storage space
Uniform end user product

Cable Strippers:
Cable Strippers are used to separate the different materials found in electrical cabling; namely plastics, rubber, lead, wire armouring, nylon, greasy paper, copper and aluminium.  Based on a single or multi bladed cutting action, individual lengths of cable are fed into the cable stripper which then cuts through the different layers of the cables for easy hand separation.

Advantages:
Using a cable stripper for recycling cable increases the value of low grade cables by separating the individual components, which then have a higher monetary value when separated.

Shredders & Granulators:
Recycling machinery used to reduce large quantities of material to a uniform size (paper, plastics, metals, green waste, timber, glass, animal carcasses)

Advantages:
Cost effective transportation with full lorry & boat payloads easily achieved
Reduced storage space
Uniform end user product

Depollution Equipment:
Recycling equipment used in ATF’s (Authorized Treatment Facilities) predominantly in the metals sector for removing hazardous waste from ELV’s (End of Life Vehicles) including petrol, diesel, oil, rubber, lead, mercury and electrical components.

Advantages:
Cleaner and safer working environment
Control of hazardous substances in metals & vehicle dismantlers’ facilities
Reduces the amount of non-recyclable waste from the secondary processing stream
Legal requirement - for the merchant to hold an ATF licence.

Sorting & Separation Equipment:
Recycling equipment used in metal recycling & waste transfer stations and the plastics sector
Separation of ferrous and non ferrous metals, different types and colours of plastics and the separation of metallic and non metallic materials

Advantages:
Reduces the need for manual time consuming separation
Cleaner and safer working environment
Faster separation of large quantities of material

Handlers:
Recycling plant and equipment used in every recycling facility within the industry for the safe and fast movement of material
Hydraulic and cable operated equipment with grabs, magnets, forks and buckets

Advantages:
Reduces the need for manual time consuming and dangerous material movement
Cleaner and safer working methods & environment
Faster & safer separation & movement of large quantities of material
