B&Q is introducing a fleet of 60 double decker distribution lorries as the organisation seeks to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 4600kgs per day.
The vehicles will be in addition to the company's current 800 conventional trucks. B&Q also plan to add a further 120 double deckers to their fleet later in the year. The retailer calculates the move will reduce the distance travelled by its lorries by 4,800 miles each day.
“We're getting traffic off the road with these double-decker lorries because they can carry as much as 50 per cent more than those in our traditional fleet,” says B&Q director of logistics Rick Jones.
The move will save money on fuel and maintenance as well as operational costs.
