Carpet recycling facility expands

First UK domestic carpet recycler expanding capabilities to include commercial carpets and tiles:-
Greenback Recycling in Melksham, Wiltshire, are the first UK recycler of domestic carpets from local authority civic amenity sites. The business was established in 2007 and is owned by the managing director of Green Recycling Group Ltd a major recycler of metals, wood, cardboard, paper, plastics, aggregates, household and commercial wastes.
 
During 2008 Greenback, a Founder Member of Carpet Recycling UK, installed shredding and baling facilities expanding its capabilities for handling different carpet types. Movement to a new site at Melksham in July provided the opportunity for expansion into commercial carpet recycling.
A wide range of end-uses for carpet recyclate have been developed ranging from equestrian surface enhancement, to incorporation of synthetic fibres in plastic products.

The success of Greenback has been acknowledged by WRAP ( Waste & Resources Action Programme ) with the recent issue of a case study on construction waste reduction.

Domestic consumers in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire are fortunate in having this carpet recycling capability in their area, and can now be confident that carpets taken to their civic amenity sites will be recycled and not add to the landfill burden.

Commercial customers such as retailers and flooring contractors in this area can also now ensure their carpet wastes are recycled.
Looking to future plans for Greenback, Managing Director Jerry Green said "Our new shredding machine will bring our capacity up to 300 tonnes per month of carpets and allow us to take in commercial carpets as well as domestic carpets.“
