New Mayor To Green Up The City

The new London mayor, Boris Johnson, has decided to scrap a City Hall newspaper, The Londoner, and put some of the money saved into "greening" up London's streets.  He intends to plant 10,000 extra trees around the city by 2012 using £1m of the £2.9m saving.  A large proportion of these trees will be planted in less affluent areas, as Boris is of the opinion that trees increase the public's sense of pride in their neighbourhood, as well as having a positive psychological effect on residents.
