Speaking on Global Wind Energy Day on Monday June 15, Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise & Energy said she sees Sweden becoming an exporter of clean energy in the near future.  Sweden is eager to demonstrate commitment to renewable energy, as the country will host the crucial December talks on climate change.

She said that wind lent itself well to Sweden's geography and economy and could bring new jobs to sparsely populated rural areas.

"It will give us jobs in areas where we have a lack of jobs," she said.

"I foresee that Sweden will export electricity, clean electricity because we have a good situation where we have a lot of hydropower, we have a lot of nuclear power, we are now investing heavily in wind power and we also have combined heat and power which is also a big industry."

"Europe has a golden opportunity right now to go into a more eco-efficient economy."
